THREADS is an award-winning, evidenced-based afterschool mentoring program.
THREADS began in 2002 at the University of Michigan as a result of the creative inspiration of Drs. Lumas Helaire, Jamaal Matthews and Brian Carey Sims, who were doctoral students in the Combined Program in Education and Psychology.
In 2014, Dr. Jamaal Matthews was awarded a $730,334 grant from the National Science Foundation to implement THREADS in the Newark Public Schools district with undergraduate mentors at Montclair State University.
In 2019, Jomoworks licensed THREADS for a University / K-12 Partnership between Norfolk State University and Norfolk Public Schools. Dr. Tiffany Lane was awarded a $112,416 grant to implement THREADS in five local high schools with undergraduate students in the Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work at Norfolk State University.
